Saturday February 8, 2020 was the 6th annual parent-teacher basketball match-up.

With Coach Hughes’ team going for their 5th consecutive victory, it was clear from the opening tip that this was going to be a spirited match-up.

Leading 20-15 at halftime, the parents’ came out flat in the 2nd half and only managed 2 points in the 3rd qtr and 7 in the 4th, while the teachers’ Juwan “the bus driver” Davis turned up the pressure on back to back baskets.

With 2 chances to ice the game in the final seconds, both Robert Paxton and Bryan Lowe for the teachers missed the front end of one-and-ones, which gave the parents a final opportunity. A 3-pointer at the buzzer by parent Wes Burtner failed to find the nylon and the teachers were once again triumphant, holding off the parents 30-29.

Between-quarter games, the Matador cheerleaders, and a halftime show by JT Moore drama (revealing their spring production “Matilda”) kept the standing-room-only crowd going until the final buzzer.

Better luck next year, parents!
