Colin Hunt, Assistant Principal
Colin Hunt joined JT Moore in the summer of 2019 as the literacy coach. For the past two years he’s been the dean of instruction where he’s helped teachers and students advance in academic growth by supporting curriculum development, assessment administration, and data analysis. During this time, Mr. Hunt has also been the school’s IB coordinator where he supported teachers in developing lessons that addressed a global mindset. When in the classroom, Mr. Hunt is often caught teaching reading or social studies though he likes all subjects. Prior to his career in education, Mr. Hunt was a literary assistant and agent in New York. He earned his BFA in Dramatic Writing with a minor in American History from New York University. After working as a teacher, Mr. Hunt pursued leadership roles and received his master’s in education leadership from Lipscomb University. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in learning organizations and strategic change also at Lipscomb University.
Recently, Mr. Hunt has served on the Nashville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Public Education fellowship which sought to educate and develop advocates for Nashville schools in the business community. He’s also served as a TN Score teaching fellow which gave him the opportunity to learn advocacy strategies for state and local policy initiatives. He was part of Mayor Megan Barry’s teacher cabinet which worked with the Nashville Public Education Fund to advise local leaders on district issues.
At JTM, Mr. Hunt is the 6th grade principal. He works with faculty and leadership to develop and implement the school’s AVID and IB programs. Mr. Hunt believes that all students can succeed often through novel and various paths. Therefore, he maintains and nurtures a welcoming space for all students, teachers, and families that invites engagement and promotes individual learning. He believes in a public education system that is available to all citizens and empowers them to be active community members and critical thinkers. To achieve these ends, he collaborates with the community around the school, communicates effectively with stakeholders, and empowers teachers and students to take charge of their own growth.
When not in school, Mr. Hunt spends his time with his wife, a middle school librarian, and his two daughters. They like to hike, travel, and take photographs.
